Case Study - Custom Application

Cairns is Awesome!

A Tourism website ultra-optimized for SEO and search visibility to maximize views and minimize ad spend. Cairns is Awesome is a fully custom Laravel application designed to provide great information for Cairns visitors for free.

We were approached to build Cairns is Awesome when standard website platforms like WordPress and Wix were found to fall short of the custom requirements of this business.

Admin Dashboard

The admin dashboard was built from the ground up to surface only the features required by the business. A fully integrated file manager for image uploads allows users to upload images of any filesize and resolution and these would be resized, compressed and watermarked for use around the site.

A WYSIWYG text editor and markup parser allows admins to easily create fully styled text content in an easy-to-use UI that renders and looks fantastic on the front end

Multiple regions

Designed for rapid expansion, admins are able to create new regions in order to add more helpful info about other tourism hotspots in order to reach more users and to guide visitors to more areas of the website, reducing page bounce.

These regions can be set up to serve on multiple domains so the business can register is whitsundaysisawesome.com and manage all regions from the same admin dashboard.

Custom Map Component

Our client wanted a fully custom map management component where they could easily edit location points on the map and filter by different “tags”. This allows visitors to the site to easily get the info they need while they are out and about. Each region has its own map and these maps overlap so you get all locations on a single map, or just the ones for your immediate area. Points on the map are also optimized for SEO, with each map pointer generating an informational page that is submitted to search engines as a sitemap-style data point. This maximized reach and click throughs in the background as each map marker was its own funnel entry point.

"The Northern Webworks team have built a fire-and-forget traffic catcher that performs without us having to touch it"

Shotlist was a platform that our client had been dreaming about for a long time. They had identified a market gap and their own ability to fill it. They engaged Northern Webworks as third party developers to first build a prototype proof of concept and then work through a second phase of development to build platform features out to a delivered project in production taking payments.

Our client rarely interacts with the site these days and yet we still rank consistently high on search and socials due to the bottom-up approach to SEO at all stages of the website.

If you search for information about travelling in the Cairns region it’s likely that you will find the site organically, and that is proof of our attention to inbound clicks and traffic catching.
